Victoria Arlen Competes on ‘Dancing With The Stars’ After A Decade In A Wheelchair

September 19, 2017

For Victoria Arlen, competing on Dancing With The Stars is truly a dream come true.

The ESPN personality and Paralympic swimmer, 22, spent the past ten years in a wheelchair after a rare autoimmune disease caused her body to shut down and sent her into a vegetative state as a child. After intense physical therapy, Arlen began walking again just 18 months ago. Now, she and pro dance partner Val Chmerkovskiy are attempting to take the Mirror Ball trophy home. For Arlen, though, there’s more at stake.

“I think this is a really big statement to myself as well as to the people that kind of wrote me off that I’m here, I lived and I’m ready to dance,” she said.
